Pharmacology
Pharmacodynamics
Biphasic mechanism of action in which the product first binds to damaged hydrophobic areas of epithelial cells to add volume to the tear film and then restructures the tear film by forming a protective gel matrix that provides long-lasting protection.
Pharmacokinetics
The high molecular weight (10005000kDa) hydroxypropyl guar molecules, along with the natural mucin layer, prolong retention of the demulcents on the ocular surface, which provides sustained lubrication to the eye and protects the ocular surface from further damage while the surface epithelial cells undergo repair and renewal.
Indications
LOCFRESH-ULTRA Eye Drops is for temporary relief of burning and irritation due to dryness of the eye.
Dosage and Administration
Instil 1 or 2 drops in the affected (eyes) as directed by physician.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to polyethylene glycol and propylene glycol or to any of the excipients.
